Tribal Faces

The Red Fringe
This beauty from the Omo Valley in Ethiopia speaks in the language of smiles.
In the Omo Valley of Ethiopia, there are no mirrors. In a daily ritual men and women cover their heads with piles of flowers and branches picked that morning. Next, a tribesman or woman smears mud and crushed minerals on the face of another, to screen out the intense sun. Then, they “paint” designs ... circles, dots,smears...into the wet mud, which identify which tribe they call their own. Everyday, they create for one another, a temporary “masterpiece”!
